Place:

High Street area, High Wycombe (central), Bucks, Looking south westerly from the north side of the High St, outside the Little Market House.

Content Notes:

View of the Guildhall and Falcon inn looking from the north side of High St, outside the Little Market House. This sketch is the 23rd in a limited edition series made in 1925 by R G Brocklehurst. The overall streetscape is similar to an engraving from an original by Niemann, showing the Guildhall, High Street, High Wycombe in the 1840s. The view is similar to that shown in MHW08615 but with significant differences. At least three market stalls appear to be in the process of being set up, one of which is a hand-pulled barrow in the centre foreground, and another a horse-drawn carriage outside the Falcon inn.

Date:

about 1840

date of the street-scene shown is deduced from its similarity to a Niemann engraving shown in MHW08615
