A low aerial view of the factory premises of Peatey Bros (Furniture) Ltd. The company was formed in the mid-1940s, after the company Peatey Bros and Collins (PBC) split up following their acquisition by Scheider. PBC had been formed after the Wycombe Furniture Lockout (strike), by the two Peatey brothers and their brother-in-law Charlie Collins, to manufacture dining chairs and stools. The operation began in a woodshed belonging to G F Fowler in Short Street (off Desborough Rd, opposite Isaac Lords). In about 1924 the firm moved to premises in Frogmoor, between the Red Cow PH and the Salvation Army Citadel. In the 1920s PBC had a fourth director, Charles Henry Fowler. He left the company in 1932, moving to Dorking in Surrey to run a catering business. In the early 1930s PBC moved again to a purpose-built 2-storey factory in Chairborough Rd, the Chairborough Works, and diversified into the cabinet trade. At its peak the firm employed over 100 people. After the company was sold to Scheider, the Peatey brothers set up again in premises in Abercrombie Rd. In the mid-1950s the brothers moved to a purpose-built factory in Lane End and established Peatey Bros (Furniture) Ltd. After the business closed the site was used as a car-repair depot. It is now the site of the Oakwood Place housing estate.
